The biting beasties are out in force up the river, however over the winter we'd taken measures to make net covers for anywhere they might get in.
These include:
1. Porthole covers
2. Hatch covers
3. Net curtain door for the aft cabin
4. Netting for the companionway (I need some poppers to fasten it up properly)
The main saloon is hard to seal off against unwelcome visitors what with coming and going in and out of the main companionway but we have tried to keep the aft cabin sealed off. With the net on the hatch, inserts in any portholes we open and a net curtain hanging in the doorway we seem to be keeping most flying beasties out. Then just before bed we get to work with the secret weapon...... the mossie killer tennis bat! It is rechargable and when switched on emits a high voltage pulse when it comes into contact with anything which makes a short circuit across its network of wires. We sweep the bat around the cabin and in and out of any corners where beasties might be hiding. If we find one there is a zzzz sound and a brief flash and another beasties bites the dust. Such a fun way of ridding the boat of biting beasties!
