Cala Magraner to Porto Cristo, 5nm travelled

08 July 2014 | Porto Cristo, Spain
Nichola / thunder and rain
Atmospheric (I.e. gloomy) Porto Cristo

Monday 7th July
Supplies were running low so sadly we left our favourite anchorage to call into Porto Cristo. The anchorage just outside the port was tight with a moored boat in the best spot and trip boats wizzing past, some more considerately than others. Ashore there were supermarkets (Spar, Hiper Central and Eroski) and we got our Orange SIM topped up at the post office; I later found lots of other places I could have topped up too, such as Eroski. However, it was my first full conversation in Spanish with the lovely post office lady. Wasn't a complicated conversation but little steps!

We did a laundry load and topped off with water. If only filling cans it can be taken free from the shower/tap behind the town key. The helpful Ports IB staff told us it came from the same source as their taps and was good for drinking. Alternatively if you need lots of water you can park the boat on the town key for an hour and fill up for €6. Recycling and rubbish bins were just behind the town key.

Some black clouds were looming and sure enough a thunder storm and downpour arrived, as Colin was ashore filling water cans! He came back looking like a drowned rat, so stripped off and had a shower :-) This rain didn't have the sand in it so Emerald got a much needed wash too.

It's a small world.... I got a message from my friend Kate asking me to check Facebook to see if a photo on there was us. It was! Kate's friends were on a trip boat (one of the considerate ones) and we had a big wave to each other. Hello Fiona and Malcolm!

We took a walk around the harbour and up to the Tower of Eagles an old watch tower and then lighthouse for some views along the coast and some more thunderous looking clouds lurking out at sea.
