Offshore upgrades

To take part in the ARC we had to make a number of upgrades. We got those finalised yesterday. Our satellite communications will arrive in the next day or two. These will allow us to get weather files when offshore. Depending on how much data the weather files use, we might also be able to post updates on this blog. We picked up the additional flares we need, and re-arming kits for the lifejackets to allow us to set them up again if they are deployed. Also a couple of extra diesel cans to supplement what we can carry in the tank. Excitingly the solar panel got fitted last night. It is not mandated by the ARC but we fitted that to boost our power generation. We already have a Rutland Marlec wind generator which is great. Rain overnight and a grey morning mean we don't yet know if the solar panel is working. Will update you later. Tim's uncle Bob and cousin Kim will visit today. Bob is an experienced sailor and Kim is a single handed round the world sailor, so we'll be getting some tips about lengthy offshore sailing. We are watching the weather for the weekend. Will keep the blog updated.
