Cascais - Portugal

After another wild couple of days sailing we arrived in Cascais an hour or so ago. Left Bayona on Saturday, and had a great sail. Overnight Saturday to Sunday was a bit of a nightmare. Our Force 4 gusting 6 was another f8 gusting 9. The boat was like a washing machine as the waves were massive. Despite packing the lockers carefully, as the boat was rolling a lot on the waves the noise inside the boat was insane. I shoved jumpers, towels and cushions in to stop stuff moving and that helped. Sunday was fine and sunny and fair. Lots of dolphins. Three times now we have seen dolphins and gannets fishing together. On Sunday we took a more inshore route to get to Cascais rather than staying offshore. All went well until shortly before arrival here when it suddenly again blew up f8 gusting 9. A scary half hour before we got in. Our pontoon neighbour is a lovely French roughie toughie sailor from southern Brittany and Biscay is his sailing area. He said he left Cascais yesterday heading towards home but had to turn back due to the wind and waves. That made us feel a bit better, if even roughie toughie's are noticing the weather is tough. Roasting here, so having read Simon's post we are moving the untouched bottle of sloe gin into a cooler place to avoid explosion. We were saving it for Christmas or at least as a "special" tipple when we do the Atlantic crossing. Imagine if we survived the oceans and then sank due to a rogue bottle of sloe gin!!! Wonder what the insurance would make of a family orchestrated explosion, it's like the Corleone's. Might need to drink it sooner then. Hurrah. Keep you all posted. Not sure where next but will let you know.
