Restless Goes Sailing

Twin headsails for downwind

All the way from Oban we've been looking for an opportunity to try out sailing with twin headsails, but (as is always the way with sailors) there was always too much wind, too little, or the swell made it seem like a bad idea. This is, though, the sail config that many yachts use for the trans-Atlantic crossing, so we were keen to give it a go.

Finally on our way from Lanzarote to Fuertaventura we got a good opportunity, and here's a picture to prove it. We had the smaller hanked-on headsail poled-out and the bigger rolling-furler sail flying free. Great news was that it worked a dream, which bodes well for the forthcoming weeks in the trade winds blowing us to the Caribbean!
