St Lucia -soufriere

Soufriere bay was a lovely spot to stop. We plan to be in St Lucia for a week, maybe longer if we stay for the arrival of ARC January boats. It would be great to come back and do the Piton hike Kim recommends. We are planning to see as much as we can here. Customs, immigration and port health were painless as we checked in. There is a thriving sub economy here arising from yachts, this partly comprises what are known as “boat boys”. Men (never women) who come around in boats or paddle boards, advertising restaurants or selling food or services. They were numerous in Soufriere and we gave in to a few bananas and lots of chat. Someone wanted us to change English pounds for east Caribbean dollars!! I got out of that by explaining we were Scottish and had our own currency. The town is compact with a very nice covered outdoor market. Very few street vendors. The highlight is the mooring and the Pitons and....the wildlife. Next morning in the cockpit doing my teeth I could hardly believe it when a turtle swam past. We have seen them offshore but not at anchor. Before I could call Tim it was gone. He was really disappointed to miss it. Five minutes later we were having tea and Tim spotted another only 5m from the boat. We kept watching and for once I had time to get the IPAD camera. Attached (if you use a microscope) one of the most exciting moments to date, a turtle swimming past, how good is that😀 as ever it looks miles away but it wasn’t. I could hear it making little breathy noises.
