Sorry but I could not resist that quote from Master and Commander.
When we broke for lunch today and we had a bit of an ordeal. On Yarramundi we have 4 food lockers. 2 small ones in the galley and 2 large ones elsewhere. We use items in the galley lockers first and when we run down we replish from the larger lockers. We opened up large locker one and there was no problem. We opened large locker two to find hundreds of insect eggs. We took everything out and put on deck and sprayed the locker and also the galley with insect spray. The cause was not rice, not the muesili or anything like that but a can of spam which had been punctured. I though the insects we were seeing around the place came from some mangoes we had purchased. Maybe they did but they made their home on and around the can of spam.
We dunked all the cans in saltwater to hopefully kill any eggs we have not been able to wash off and now Nicky is in the process of writing the contents with a texta on them in case the label comes off. A small problem to have given our rudder.
Meanwhile back on shore work has been completed. The dry dock structure is complete and we are waiting for tomorrow morning's high tide to carry it in.
I have been testing the various bonds, FRP repair kits and silicon kits I have gotten from Yap and also off the ship H1 so I can make efficient progress when the tide comes down. It is not a big tidal gap tomorrow which in one way might be good. If the structure is not the right size or proves to be too weak the boat won't be stuck up too high. Everyone has been instructed on how important it is that the boat does not fall back on her keel or that the keel is not to be bumped or touched in anyway as we bring Yarramundi into shallow water.
