Solomon Sea finally allows the sun to shine, & better news on the engine

I thought for a while that it was going to be a repeat of the time I was here with Adam. Several days of cloud and rain. That was what it was like from 3am till midday but now the sun is out. Good chance to dry out the cabin.
As for the engine it has never been better.
We done 19 hrs almost all at 2800 to make progress against the current. Looking back at the log when I have motored for extensive times at 2800 I have used about 2.8litres/hour. When at 2500 RPM about 2 litres per hour. I wanted to see what the fuel consumption was after the work on the engine so I could budget accordingly. Based on previous experience fill up I was expecting to put in between 50 and 60 litres. It only took 24 meaning at those tops revs I am using 1.3 l/hr!!! The fuel efficiency has improved considerably after cleaning the fuel injector pump and injectors.
I had lowered the revs just prior to lunch to save fuel as some wind had come up. But as the wind has dropped again and we are not using all that much I've put it back to 2800 to make some ground. I have set a course SSE instead of South to our way point to take advantage of some SE winds expected tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully then we'll be able to sail at a reasonable speed. I am basing the August 17 arrival on an average speed of 4.5. Whilst we are doing 5.4 now it is in the wrong direction. However VMG is still 4.5 so once the wind picks up should be able to claw back some time lost from the late depature.
