In Taravai with Valerie and Herve

02 March 2020 | In Taravai
Rolf
Its nice to be back with old friends. Those two, Valerie and Herve are really special and its almost impossible not to hug and kiss them , even though Emanuel Macron said : No more kisses. Finit la bise and no more
handshakes. The virus is in every conversation and so far we are lucky not to have it ...yet. It will be only a matter of time when it hits Polynesia and then it might get heavy with so many people overweight, high blood
pressure and diabetes. The two major health problems here. They are also almost a death sentence if you have it and you are over 60 and get that virus.
My blood pressure is ok, but only with my pills and i dont have diabetes. But i cough like an old horse with every man- flue that i get. So i worry as well. Not just for me but for my friends and family. They all plan major
trips by plane and have to take the chance to go thru airports and train stations etc
Often you hear that people die with a normal flu as well. But when they say it, it has this glimpse of hope in it, that this might just disappear with the warmer weather.
Right now i think about the Syrian refugees that sit in cramped tents by the thousands. And the warlords that fight nonstop in that region. If it ever the virus hits those camps , the soldiers will have better things to do
and might just sit peacefully in a shelter. Hell knows what will happen if those poor people get infected in the refugee camps.
Meanwhile , we sit at Herves table and talk about pearls , local politics and how to catch a pig when you're hungry . Maybe by next weekend we get a crowd of yachties together and infect each other with useless
talk about broken autopilots and broken boats. So many things brake on boats, that i start humming this Bob Dylan song: " EVERY THING IS BROKEN"...its helps in my frustration.
One engine is not starting fast anymore .It needs 20 seconds of cranking A quick look in the engine log book says it all: I havent changed the fuel filters since 2016!!! There is a brown sludge in the filter sight glass,
But i put it off for later, when we are at anchor in Rikitea. That is the safest of em all here in Gambier. When ever i take things apart, there is a big chance that it breaks , or it wont work anymore. In Rikitea town i have
a better chance to find a person that has a little more knowledge than me, when it comes to those diesel engines. They are not my favorite and therefore i try to avoid engine room time to a bare minimum.
I prefer to show my Siamese twin pearls to innocent locals and tourists. They all believe me . Just shows how little people know about it, and how everybody wants to have a miracle.
To the next one i ll sell this miracle for 300 $ . And try not to laugh....i doubt i can do it :-)

First sunny and hot, then the fog moves in and the boat gets all wet. You feel the light drizzle
