157 miles closer to " Paradise"

19 April 2024 | between Cabo and Nuku
Rolf
A fast and bumpy start. Wind is from th side , so it should be comfortable , but a confused sea makes life difficult for the first day out at sea. After a year in no swell Mexico it will take us a while to get used to the big
waves. Its difficult to sleep when you should be sleeping and its also difficult to stay awake when you should be up during night watches. We will get used to it as always. The first 2 days are a pain.
What broke : A chafe guard on a mainsail batten is coming loose and the one wind generator is making sick noises as the blades touch the housing. We had this before, but taking in off , high up over the steering
station in such big seas is not advisable.
Everything else is ok. sea temp is 23.4 C and at night it goes down to 20 C . Day time is 25C and it should get warmer every day and the wind is coming more from behind as we approach the equator.
The Starlink worked fine on offshore (expensive) mode yesterday. We will use it twice a day for mail and weather and news. Usually about 9 am and 6pm. Please don't send us videos or other long files...thank you...A
yes ....and the sky is blue. on another postive note: our new Chinese AIS works well offshore .We now see cargo ships up to 260 miles away from us. And i hope they can see us as well...maybe not that far , but far
enough

didnt make it out to the Pacific

16 April 2024 | Cabo San Lucas
Rolf | Cloudy, misty 25C...lousy wind
We sailed fast in the morning , but then it was like somebody turn off the windswitch ....zero
so we sailed and motored to Cabo San Lucas...its party time here .Big tourist boats with boom boom boxes. but many whales and turtles and dolphins...so it was worth the stop here .Hope to sleep well after so many
sail changes. As sailors know : light wind sailing is often much harder than a fresh breeze...good night everybody... ah ...yes : NOTHING BROKE

LOS FRAILES our last stop in lovely Mexico

15 April 2024 | Los Frailes
Rolf | 29C sunny
A pleasant day sail brought us 45 miles closer to Nuku Hiva . I saw a whale and again many jumping rays. Daniela wanted to go to the beach for a last walk but the swell at the beach gives big waves and we might
get the dinghy flipped over if we risk it . Not a good thing on the last stop. Maybe the swell stops later or tomorrow morning. It doesn't mater what time we leave for the 3 to 4 week Pacific trip.
A weird thing happened today : NOTHING BROKE. And the heat exchanger rubber cap that we changed yesterday is not leaking and the engine is working fine so far...lucky. Or maybe no just luck : we carried spare
rubber caps , because we know they break often. Now we haven't got any more spares...HAVE YOU GOT SPARE PARTS FOR EVERYTHING?

back in Bahia Los Muertos

14 April 2024 | Bahia los Muertos
Rolf | 28C sunny
A windy place but much calmer than the Ventana. It took us a few hours to sail against current and little wind to this protected bay. Instead of lazy Sunday afternoon , i can take apart the heat exchanger and fix a few
things on the engine. Funny , that most people on land think we just sit around sail under the tropical sun and drink pina coladas. Or , as a friend of mine told me ....sit in front of the computer all day.
Off course i stop most work when the city folks come for a visit. But when they are gone and we cleaned up all their hair from the filters ....we get back to work. That's life on a boat....yes. Its not always paradise

Bahia La Ventana or 40 miles closer to Nuku Hiva

13 April 2024 | la Paz
Rolf
A slow day with little wind and a few motor hours to get us anchored at this beach.
What broke: Oil is leaking out of the port engine and the heat exchanger is leaking rusty water...the hydlrolic steering makes a weird noise when hand steering under engine. The oil reservoir level is rising...puzzled.
tomorrow is fixing engine etc....it never ends ...and that's just the beginning.
But we saw many sting rays jumping and dolphins , seals and and and its beautiful here in Mexico

8 miles closer to French Poly

10 April 2024 | la Paz
Rolf | 28C sunny
a pleasant day tacking against the northerlies towards False Bay. Saw a whale shark as we left La Paz and a seal said hello as we entered in this calm bay .Calm , after months of enduring the La Paz Waltz, an
annoying tidal stream that shakes you up in your boat as if you sailing off shore.
Gives us time to clean the propellers and get the boat ready for when the weather is perfect for leaving. Right now , there would be no wind and south wind towards Cabo San Lucas...who wants that
