Notes for Later

That captain....he needs to take over when I am not on the boat! Last entry was time with his sister which sounded like a success, lots of sailing, sun, snorkling and swimming I think. Upon her departure from St Lucia Doug sailed up to Antigua. Old cruiser friends from the Salty Dawg were gathered there for the classic race week. I got glimpses through Facebook. Next on the agenda was a visit from Dougs son. The two of them spent a week of father and son time, something that hasn't happened for a very long time. So glad they had that opportunity. Here in Minnesota I have been recreation a gardening business I had before I left to live on the boat. Turns out lots of people still need help with their yards! I have more business than I can handle. Not a bad problem to have. This keeps my mind off the worry of Doug out there right now sailing from Antigua back yo the coast of the US. He found a crew to share the ride at the last minute. Sounded like a good match before they left. Hope that continues to be true, its never a good thing is someone has to be thrown overboard.

Toughing out the winter Storms

Nancy and I been hearing about the winter storms... major snow in Minneapolis... major ice in Toronto. We've been toughing it out too... in the Tobago Cays... water temp 84F, air temp 84F. As if anchored on edge of earth... that would be name of reef beside us... only "land" between us and Africa... otherwise all open ocean. Behind reef swimming from boat with turtles, sting rays, starfish and beautiful coral fishes of all colors. Struggling not to get too sun burnt. Wintering is exhausting.

End to End Anastomoses

Sailing with my sister from Bequia to Mayreau in the Grenadines. Halfway along the refrigeration quits. Hmmmm... same thing happened to Mary and I halfway across the Atlantic a month ago. At that time however... after tearing the frig electrical apart for half a day... it magically started working [...]

On my End

What started as a crisis in the middle of a snow storm ended with the birth of my grandson. After being 5 days over due and going through 30 hours of labor he finally made it! This is really a new adventure.

Well it looks like the Captain has forgotten about the blog. Maybe people can give him a nudge. He is currently sailing the Grenadines with his sister, no internet there so a good excuse. Hope we hear something about it when they return to St Lucia. Doug has been in St Lucia the last two weeks. A few days spent with friends on vacation, and a week doing boat repairs while waiting for his sister to arrive. One thing I know for sure is that he is in a warmer place than I am. A snow storm mid April is not what I expected to come back to and of course when did my daughter go into labor? Right in the middle of it!

Lake Superior Training Comes To Pass

31 January 2018 | La Gomera, Canary Islands
Good old Lake Superior, our training grounds. It has served us well. These past two days one would have thought we were sailing on Lake Superior. Sudden high winds, very steep waves, cold water, arriving completely soaked, yep Lake Superior all right. As Zippy hit the steep waves Doug would get completely drenched by a wave coming over the dodger and breaking on him. I tried to stay under the protection of the dodger when not needed, hey no need for both of us to get soaked, right? He definitely took lots for the team.
