What Survives!

The Twisted Trees are lone survivors out here. Do they ever rot, someday maybe. They are fascinating the way they get twisted up from the wind.

The Seclusion

We found some!!! Seclusion that is. So far my experience in the Canyonlands has been different than I expected. The vastness, the beauty, that's all been inline with what I thought but I was expecting to be off more in the wilderness, away from the people. Even though the park is pretty unknown in the [...]

The Confluence

The Historic Point of destination today led us to the Confluence where the Green river from and the Colorado river from Colorado meet in the center of the Canyonlands and join to be the Colorado river which runs through the Grand Canyon in Arizona. The Hoodoos

The majority of the Needles area of the park is covered in rock formations called the Hoodoos, An overview here shows these mushroom looking structures. The needles are condensed in one dense section but the Hoodoos sprawl out to cover the rest of the Needles section of the park.

Well its a good thing we didn't go even if we had felt up for a rough start. The front that caused the strong winds ended up being forecast to build and build. Thanks to our weather router Chris Parker we are informed of weather patterns we cannot read as accurately as he. So how to switch gears. We haven't really ever been held up more than a day because of weather. We have heard many a cruiser talk about this happening but usually it is because their boats cannot sail in the kind of weather our boat can. We usually end up sailing while they wait. So when you are on a roll like we have been it is hard to just STOP. First things first catch up on small things that never seem to get done. Done. Second, start thinking of all the bigger projects that sit on the back burner. Nows the time to do them. Doug started with our cockpit table. It rusted through a while back so we lost our outdoor patio dining area. This has not been a big factor lately as we have not been in warm patio dining weather for months. BUT it is coming soon so, wow, it would be great to have the table fixed.
