We have learned a lot through the years about ideal foods to bring on a crossing, our menu has expanded and the products we have discovered along the way have been part of that process. Having only a refrigerator we can start with about four days of fresh meat. After that its dried sausages, canned meats, beans and vegetarian dishes. We have found some good canned meatballs that add a lot of flexibility to the menu, canned ham and bbq pulled pork, tuna is always good but canned chicken not so much. In Europe eggs are never refrigerated so they have a long life span. Fresh vegetable get used in the order of their heartiness with our best friend being the cabbage. Cabbage is great made into cole slaw, steamed with onion and bratwurst or served alone as a vegetable. It never seems to go bad! That along with carrots, onions and garlic are a staple items on the boat. Its all about food management with regards to having a variety of fresh items and preserved products.
