Doug has been saving the last of the special port he bought in Porto, it being his favorite and not being able to find it since we left the winery that sold it, he wanted a really special moment for the occasion. What better than to celebrate making land fall after sailing for 2200 miles! Ironically the toughest past of the whole passage was coming into this bay in Barbados. The charts indicated a possible area of turbulent waters and after a whole day of turbulent seas and a memory of the acceleration zone warnings in the Canaries we were playing it cautious. This added some extra time to our arrival. As we reached the bay we noticed it was pretty full. The biggest problem though was that most of the boats did not have anchor lights on, it was midnight when we pulled in. These was also a mooring ball field not marked on the charts reducing the anchoring possibilities. After a couple long hours of trying to find a place and then getting the anchor to hold (not a sandy bottom it turned out) we finally stopped and took a moment to celebrate, then collapsed into bed.
