SailBlogs Friends

SailBlogs includes the ability for two members to identify themselves as "friends" within the system. Friends have the ability to be notified of each other's activity, as well as other features that define what is commonly known as a social network.

Finding and Adding Friends

Becoming a friend with another member involves sending that member a request, and for them to confirm that request. After the send and confirmation, you'll be friends with each other.

If you are a registered member, and you are logged into your account, you will see link to "Add as Friend" in various lists of other members. These lists include the Member by Boat Name list, public search, group members list, and member-to-member search within the admin system. Clicking an Add link will present a dialog where you can add a personal message to the friend request.

After submitting the request, the recipient will be notified by email of the request wit a link to confirm the request. Also the next time the recipient logs into their SailBlogs account, they will see a notification of the pending friend request.

When the request is confirmed, the original sender will be notified by email that their request was accepted.

Quick News

With confirmed friends in the system, some of their activities will begin to appear in your quick news column on the main welcome page of the SailBlogs administration. Items that will appear include new blogs posts, new additions to their photo galleries, when they make friends with other users, etc. This is a handy way to keep up to date with other users of the system without needing to continually check their blog page for new items.

Blog Page Block

In the advanced theme settings, there is an option to show the friends block on your blog page. Usually this will appear in the side column, and show a random selection of your current friends. Clicking the 'view all' link will show the visitor a list of all your friends.

Removing a Friend

To remove a friend, first select 'view friends' from the main admin page. Find the friend in the list of your friend, and select the "remove friend" link. You'll be asked to confirm this action. The friend will then be removed and their items removed from your quick news. They will NOT be notified when you remove a friend.
