Such a beautiful island. We could have easily stayed longer but need to take advantage of a small weather opening. Expecting 20 kt winds 4-7 ft swell and nose on the nose for half of the trip but it could be worse. Planning on little sleep little food and some sea sickness. Shooting for Spain but not sure if we will be forced down to Africa. Planning on posting our location at least once a day via satellite phone. Love you all!
Had some great down wind sailing to the southern coast of gran canaria! It is a beautiful and warm part of the island. We are finally in the water (for short intervals) without a wetsuit and getting tan lines.
We landed in Corralejo on the island of Fuertaventura and right next to our anchorage is surf! So exciting to finally be able to surf from the boat. Unfortunately the area is super exposed and with bad weather coming we have to run back to Lanzerote in a couple days for protective anchoring.
We have really enjoyed being on La Graciosa. Got some good surf, then some gnarly surf where I thought I would die 😯 but after getting pelted by sand constantly we decided some city life would be a nice change. So far the capital is small but protected from the trades a bit so feels warmer. All the main attractions can be walked to in about an hr but the beaches are pretty with lava rocks and clear blue water. Definitely enjoying electricity and hot water, but will soon need to move on and find some nature to explore and surf!
We headed up to Cadiz from Gibraltar so we could skip some bad weather in the strait while we wait for our friends to arrive for the crossing... then the long haul down. It will be our longest crossing to date. Glad we get to do it with friends.
Early this morning we tried to use our engine only to learn it was not propelling us through the water... after trying to trouble shoot the problem with no success it was decided to use the available wind and find the closest port that direction. We were able to sail to Torrevieja and connect with a technician. Let's hope we can get her fixed!
