Here are some pictures from a recent visit to Daniels Bay. A season of Survivor was filmed here, unfortunately they did not treat Daniel too well. It is a lovely bay. Please enjoy.

The ocean side of the beach where we went ashore. There is a small creek in the background that we traveled up. This begins our 3 hour hike up to one of the supposed 3rd tallest waterfalls in the world.

One form of transportation in this bay. They had rusty old vehicles that we were surprised actually run, but they only used them to haul things from boats to the homes of the 10 local residents. There is no road into the bay from outside.



We were told the foundation of this home originally was the home of the King who had 30,000 people in his Kingdome. Wow. There are 10 people there now.....

Apparently it actually works, and it works better when it is raining. Go figure.

Not sure what kind of tree this was, but when you knocked on it it sounded like a drum. Quite loud.

Amazing.



It was like a wind tunnel in there. Flying water, and wind whipped you right in the face.



We were actually sitting on a rock. Not too deep right there.

The area where the residents lived had impressively manicured gardens with lots of beautiful and exotic to us flowers.

Well the bay would have been paradise if it were not for the bugs. That is not sand in the cockpit. At least these little beasties did not bite, but they did keep us holed up below until after 10AM almost every day.



Well that was Daniels Bay. Lovely isn't it?

Anchor is down and we are ready to go ashore. I will be so glad to get Thor fixed and will never bad mouth him again. Hand steering for about 24 hours was very tiring but we're here and that's what counts. Scoots and Cinnabar were cheering and blowing their conch shells as we came in along side them to drop the hook. Deb will take over the blog now that she can find internet at a coffee shop in town. Thanks for following our adventure...

The wind has died so we are hand steering on hour shifts (since our autopilot is broke) with the engine running flat out. We should get to Nuiku Hiva on Sunday. Next report should be from the anchorage.

It's been swimsuit weather the last couple days. Rain clouds chase us down and so we all put on our swimsuits to avoid getting our regular clothes wet. We seem to be a magnet for rain clouds and one stayed over us for an hour. We're in good spirits as we are about 240 miles from Nuku Hiva. If our autopilot wasn't broke, we would probably run the diesel at full speed to get there quick. Still looks like a Monday arrival.

Impulsive is 389 miles from Nuku Hiva so we should be there this Sunday or Monday depending on winds. If winds die down, we will fire up the iron geny and hand steer (we have no autopilot) so that we get there ASAP . We have finally found the trade winds below the equator and are sailing at 6 knots with 12 knots of wind on a beam to broad reach. The swells have become more gentle and have a longer period. We have all commented on how enjoyable the last couple days have been. Far different from the squalls and choppy seas we had up north.
